Take a walk down any haircare aisle and you’ll be bombarded with shampoo and conditioner in plastic bottles. Problem is, plastic is made from crude oil, aka fossil fuels. If we’re going to solve the climate crisis, we need to get off fossil fuels ASAP. Plus, plastic is only recycled 5-6% of the time. So one big thing we can do to reduce out carbon footprint (and waste) is to switch to shampoo and conditioner bars! This cuts down on so much excessive packaging. Thing is, not all shampoo and conditioner bars are created equal. I’ve heard horror stories of people being left with waxy hair after using one. That’s why I truly love Brixy bars! They last forever, are low waste, and always leave my hair feeling clean. Here’s my full Brixy review.

Brixy Review: My Honest Thoughts on Their Hair + Body Bars
What’s the problem with conventional shampoo?
There are several reasons you should probably break up with conventional shampoo.
Here are just a few:
- They come in single-use plastic bottles that probably won’t be recycled. Plastic is made from crude oil, aka a fossil fuel, which pollutes our environment. Plus, plastic takes hundreds of years to break down (all the plastic that’s ever been created since its initial invention still exists today).
- Most contain questionable ingredients that aren’t healthy for your scalp and can harm aquatic life when washed down the drain.
- Are a waste of water. Liquid shampoo is formulated with 70-90% water, plus water is needed to create plastic bottles. Water is a vital resource that shouldn’t be wasted.
Switching over to zero waste shampoo and conditioner is a great alternative! If you’re making the switch to shampoo bars (like Brixy), you’ll also be reducing a lot of water waste too – since it’s a concentrated formula. Some other shampoo bars I love include Ecoroots and Lush.
My experience with Brixy bars
Okay, so now that you get why it’s a good idea to avoid conventional shampoo, let’s get personal and focus on my individual experience with this brand. Here’s my full Brixy review!
What did you try?
I was gifted their coconut vanilla scented shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Each of them came individually wrapped in a FSC certified cardboard box. The three of them were delivered inside a compact cardboard box.
Also, they do have two other scents! Citrus (I def want to try this next) and mint eucalyptus.
What did you think?
Now here’s the part you’re most curious about: My thoughts. I’ve divided this section based on the individual products I tried! Feel free to skip to which ever product most interests you.
Shampoo bar
Okay so for context, I got this shampoo bar back in November of 2023. It lasted me until the beginning of April 2024. Let that sink in! That’s 6 months worth of product!
The fact it lasted that long blows my mind. To me, that alone is a huge selling point because I’ve NEVER had a shampoo bar last me longer than maybe a month max.
Mind you, I use shampoo a lot. I work out 5 times a week and shower right afterwards. So the fact this held up this long is amazing to me.
These shampoo bars are built to LAST. Brixy does NOT cheap out on you. They’re thick and durable and I love that they give so much bang for their buck.
Best of all? It works! My hair felt clean and moisturized after I gave it a good wash with the Brixy shampoo bar. And no, it didn’t leave ANY kind of waxy residue whatsoever. It leaves my hair glowing, shiny and bouncy.
And there’s no harsh chemicals either. It’s color safe and free from sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, PEG’s and synthetic scents and colorants. Plus vegan + cruelty-free!
To use it, just get your hair wet, then rub the bar right onto your hair and lather it up with your hands. Or, rub the bar onto your wet hands, then massage your soapy hands into your hair.

Conditioner bar
Okay so if you thought the shampoo bar lasted a while, guess what? The conditioner bar tops that completely. It’s STILL GOING.
I’ve been using the conditioner bar since November of 2023. And I am STILL using it. That’s 9 months worth of product – and counting!
It’s so thick and you only need a little bit to do the job!
Color me impressed, to say the least. The long-lasting nature of this product alone leads me to give it a five star rating.
But on top of that, I’m also impressed with how well it works. My hair is always left feeling nourished, soft and hydrated. Never brittle, even when I myself have dead ends (which reminds me, I’m due for a haircut…)
And just like the shampoo bar, it’s free of harsh chemicals, vegan and cruelty-free.
To use, just add it onto the ends of your wet hair. Let it sit for a minute or longer, then rinse out! It also doubles as a leave in treatment for extra moisture!

Bonus: Body wash bar
Out of all the Brixy bars I tried, the body wash bar lasted the shortest amount of time. I think it was done within a month. But hey, considering my Lush soap bars usually only last two weeks max, I’ll still take it!
My skin felt hydrated and nourished after using it. Not stripped or dry at all.
Just like the rest of these bars, the body bar is made without harsh chemicals, vegan and cruelty-free. And it does come in other scents as well.
Nothing bad to say, other than I wish the scent was a little more distinct? But I’m also kind of grateful that none of these bars had obnoxiously strong scents. As someone with a sensitive nose, I don’t handle synthetic fragrances well!
I will say, I completely forgot to get pictures of this one. Totally my bad! But still, overall, I enjoyed it.
